The Muse was the first sculpture I created in bronze and, for that reason, it holds a special place in my work.
The female figure appears confident and slightly playful. Her stylised proportions deliberately move away from realistic representation, playing with fantasy and giving her a character of her own.
She gently holds a butterfly in one hand and wears a mask that adds a subtle sense of mystery. The flowers across her chest and checked knickers become part of that interplay between femininity, fantasy and freedom that runs through the figure.
Over the years, The Muse has accompanied me through different exhibitions and has become a recurring presence in my work. Looking at her now, I see her as the beginning of a visual language that I have continued to explore: the female figure, nature, identity, and that space where reality can meet imagination.
This work was one of three sculptures I presented when I was awarded Second Place in the Sculpture category at the 2018 Da Vinci International Art Festival, Museo José Luis Cuevas, Mexico City.
