Rose Memory comes from the idea of the memories we keep and how, in some way, they remain with us.
When the retablo is opened, a handcrafted aguayo textile rose appears suspended against a painted landscape of warm tones and soft blues. Around it, sculpted leaves travel across the surface and extend beyond the edges, bringing movement and depth to the piece.
I wanted to use the form of the retablo itself as part of the work: when we open it, we discover a small inner world, and when we close it, that world is kept safely inside once again. For me, it is a simple way of speaking about memories, how we can return to them, and how some remain with us over time.
 
Technique: Handmade wooden retablo, oil, resin and aguayo textile rose.
