Inspired by the poetry of love and symbolic forms, My Heart, Your Heart evokes a sunset sky painted in soft violet and pink tones, originally captured in a photograph by my husband, and inspired by the vibrant sunsets of the Peruvian highlands. The sky is painted in oil over a surface shaped like a chacana, an ancient symbol of balance. At the center floats a heart made of dozens of roses handcrafted from traditional aguayo textile, each petal individually formed as a symbol of tenderness, memory, and roots. The piece reimagines the Peruvian retablo as a “poetic box.” Its two side doors extend the painted sky, each holding a central rose. When closed, new outer panels shaped like chacanas reveal more roses, echoing a dialogue between the inner and outer world. This sculptural-pictorial piece invites contemplation, connection, and emotional resonance.
