In this work, a large eye holds Machu Picchu within its iris, like an image that remains in our memory and becomes part of the way we see.
I wanted to represent this emblematic place in Peru from a different perspective, bringing it into the gaze and making it something more intimate and personal. The work is painted in oil on aguayo textile, whose weave and colour remain visible between the layers of paint and through the forms of the frame.
The organic, unconventional frame was specially designed and crafted for the work by Mark Mills.
