Inspired by El sueño de San Martín, by Peruvian writer Abraham Valdelomar, this work draws on the well-known story in which José de San Martín observes the flight of the parihuanas, red-and-white birds that inspired the colours of Peru’s first flag.

In my interpretation, a young girl shares this world with the parihuana, surrounded by roses and other elements that transform the historical story into a scene born from my imagination. The work is painted on aguayo textile, whose weave and texture remain visible beneath the layers of paint, keeping my roots present within the work.

The composition is contained within a dark, organic and irregularly shaped frame, specially designed and crafted for the piece by Mark Mills.
